Kodiak Island Brown Bear
Your Experience
Kodiak Island is the home of the largest Brown Bear in the world. Our Brown Bear hunting permits are on Alaska State and Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge lands. They are awarded through the State drawing process. We have 3 spring applications with high draw success. Drawing applications for these hunts are due by December 15th and permits are awarded in February. These spring hunts begin mid April and are 12 days long.
Your trip will begin when you are picked up at the airport. You will be taken to the local sporting goods store for any last minute items and to purchase your license and locking tag. You will then go to the local ADFG office for Administrative paperwork then prepare to fly to the Base Camp.
Your hunt will start within one of the many long drainages which end at saltwater. You can anticipate many hours of glassing from various vantage points. Your nights will be spent between either the base camp cabin, a "base-camp" style tent and/or a backpack "spike" tent depending on which hunt you are on. These techniques allow you to maximize your time in the field and provide the ability to cover vast amounts of Brown Bear country.
You should be prepared to carry a weight of approximately 25 - 30 pounds for the duration of your hunt regardless of the plan we have for the day. Once you have taken your animal and it is removed from the field, we will provide the proper trophy care by fleshing, salting and drying the hide. It will then be shipped to the destination of your choice.
